Thomas W. Glanton, JR., Ed.D
Southwest Dekalb High School is proud to announce the addition of Dr. Thomas Glanton as the new principal. After an extensive selection process, which included an administrative panel interview and input from the Local School Council and the Parent Teacher Association, Dr. Glanton emerged as the candidate of choice to fill the position of our next Principal.
Dr. Glanton is a seasoned school leader who has served as an English teacher, Assistant Principal, Principal, and Director of Leadership Development for more than 20 years. He is a graduate of the University of Georgia, where he earned a Bachelor’s Degree, Master’s Degree, and Doctoral Degree in Education. In 2010, during a restructuring of the DCSS Central Administration, he elected to return to the local school to, once again, serve as a school principal. Now, he has accepted the challenge to improve student achievement, provide a climate conducive to academic success, and serve the students and community at Southwest DeKalb High School.
As a family man, he is a husband of one wife and the father of three boys. He grew up in South Dekalb and spent his formative years as the DeKalb NAACP Youth Council President and a student at Redan High School. Dr. Glanton is a self-proclaimed instructional-minded educational leader who supports positive student-teacher relationships. He is available and at your service!
